The 0500 COYOTE wildfire, located 5 miles south of Post, Oregon in Crook County, was discovered on July 16, 2026 and is a natural fire. By the first NIFC report on August 6, it had burned 17,448 acres and was 89% contained with 219 personnel on the scene. Over the next month the acreage fluctuated slightly, dropping to 15,000 acres on August 12 before returning to 17,459 acres by August 13, while containment remained at 88-89% until late September when it reached 99% containment. Personnel numbers varied from 9 to 219, and estimated costs rose from $19,391,218 to $27,074,748 as the fire was managed. The fire behavior remained minimal, smoldering, creeping, and occasionally isolated torching, with no significant changes in weather conditions reported.
