X-pattern search refers to a tactical search technique employed by firefighters to enhance spatial coverage within a structure by traversing the area in a diagonal pattern. This method aims to minimize unsearched zones and improve situational awareness during search and rescue operations. Not to be confused with formal search protocols outlined in departmental SOPs, the X-pattern search serves as a conceptual framework that can be adapted within the context of the Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS).
