Editorial Policy

AllFirefighter operates as an independent digital publication serving the global fire service community. Every editorial decision — what we publish, how we review it, and how we correct it — is guided by a single priority: accuracy that firefighters can rely on.

Effective date: January 1, 2024  |  Last reviewed: March 2026

🔥 First Principle

No advertiser, affiliate partner, or sponsor has ever influenced — or will ever influence — an editorial decision on AllFirefighter.

Editorial Policy at a Glance

  • ✅ Sources limited to NFPA, OSHA, USFA, ERG, and verified agencies
  • ✅ Errors corrected transparently with visible correction notices
  • ✅ Affiliate relationships disclosed on every relevant article
  • ❌ No paid editorial placements or sponsored articles

  • ❌ No silent edits — all corrections acknowledged publicly
  • ❌ No content published solely for search traffic without genuine value

Editorial Independence

AllFirefighter's editorial team operates independently from all commercial relationships. Advertising placements, affiliate partnerships, sponsored content arrangements, and equipment manufacturer relationships have no influence on what we publish, how we evaluate products, or which topics we cover.

Advertisers are not permitted to request, review, or approve editorial content before publication. No content on AllFirefighter is written, modified, or withheld based on commercial considerations.

Content Creation & Review Process

Every article, guide, tool description, and reference page on AllFirefighter follows a defined process before publication:

01
Assignment & Sourcing

Topics assigned to contributors based on certified expertise. Primary sources identified before writing: NFPA standards, OSHA regulations, NIFC/USFA incident data, or official agency publications.

02
Drafting

Content written by or with direct input from a credentialed fire service contributor in the relevant specialty area — not generalist writers.

03
Technical Review

Operational and technical content reviewed by a second contributor or subject-matter lead, with particular attention to safety-critical claims, standards references, and procedures.

04
Editorial Review

Final check for clarity, accuracy, completeness, and alignment with our editorial standards, disclaimer requirements, and disclosure obligations.

05
Post-Publication Monitoring

Published content is actively monitored for standard changes, reader corrections, and new official guidance. Articles are updated with a visible notice when material changes occur. This is ongoing — not a one-time review.

Source Standards

AllFirefighter content is grounded in authoritative, verifiable sources. We do not publish claims based solely on social media, unverified accounts, or anonymous tips. Accepted primary sources include:

  • NFPA standards and technical publications
  • OSHA regulations and compliance guidance
  • NIFC, USFA, and NFORS incident databases
  • Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) — current edition
  • FEMA and DHS official publications
  • Verified fire department and agency statements
  • Manufacturer technical specifications and certifications
  • Peer-reviewed fire service and EMS research

Where a claim cannot be verified against a recognized source, it is either not published or clearly labeled as opinion, analysis, or expert perspective.

What We Do Not Publish

Content Categories & Lead Contributors

Each major content category is overseen by a contributor with direct operational experience in that specialty. Content outside a contributor's expertise is reviewed by the appropriate lead before publication.

Affiliate & Product Content

Some articles on AllFirefighter contain affiliate links, including links to Amazon Associates. These relationships are disclosed clearly at the top of every article containing affiliate links.

Affiliate relationships have no bearing on product selection, ratings, recommendations, or editorial conclusions. Products are evaluated against NFPA certification status, field relevance, and firefighter safety requirements — not commercial relationships. If a product does not meet our criteria, we say so.

Sponsored Content Policy

AllFirefighter does not publish paid editorial content, sponsored articles, or promotional material presented as independent editorial coverage.

Any content produced in a commercial context — such as a clearly labeled partner spotlight or manufacturer technical brief — is identified explicitly as such and kept physically and editorially separate from our independent content. Sponsored content never appears without full disclosure.

LODD & Incident Reporting Standards

Line-of-duty death notices, serious injury reports, and major incident coverage are handled with the highest standard of care on AllFirefighter.

Content Updates & Corrections

Published content is reviewed and updated when NFPA standards are revised, official guidance changes, or errors are identified. All significant updates are noted with an "Updated [Month Year]:" notice at the top of the article. Factual errors are corrected with a visible "Correction:" label — we do not silently edit published articles.

See our full Corrections Policy for details on how errors are handled and how to report one.
