Effective Quick Attack Tactics on Apartment Fires: Fireground Insights
Crew executes rapid interior attack on apartment fire, emphasizing speed, safety, and coordination.
Rapid Interior Attack on Apartment Fire
In this scenario, the crew initiates a quick attack on an apartment fire, focusing on rapid fire suppression to prevent fire spread and protect occupants. The team advances a charged hoseline under full PPE and SCBA, coordinating closely with the incident commander (IC) to maintain situational awareness and accountability.
What the Crew is Doing
The firefighters deploy a 1¾-inch or 2½-inch handline to perform an aggressive interior attack. The nozzle operator maintains proper nozzle pressure and uses a combination of straight stream and fog patterns to cool the fire and protect exposures. The backup firefighter supports hose advancement and monitors for changing conditions, ready to adjust tactics as needed. Ventilation may be coordinated to improve visibility and reduce heat, but must be timed carefully with fire attack to avoid worsening conditions.
