Toxic industrial material (TIM) refers to substances generated through industrial processes that can pose significant health and safety risks if released into the environment. These materials encompass a wide range of chemicals, biological agents, and other hazardous substances, often subject to stringent regulations due to their specific applications and potential for extensive harm. Not to be confused with general hazardous materials, TIMs require specialized handling protocols within frameworks such as the Incident Command System (ICS) and the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
