Definition & Operational Usage
A facepiece purge valve is a component of a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) facepiece that allows the user to manually release exhaled air or excess pressure without removing the mask. It facilitates rapid clearing of the facepiece in case of fogging or contamination. Not to be confused with the facepiece exhalation valve, which operates automatically during normal breathing cycles. This valve is critical during emergency operations to maintain clear vision and effective communication within the Incident Command System (ICS) framework.
