UN 0225 — Boosters with detonator
Placard: Explosive 1.1B. ERG Guide 112. Training/quick-reference only — use current ERG + SOP/SOG for incident-specific actions.
UN 0225, Boosters with Detonator, are solid explosive charges integrated with detonating devices that present an extreme mass explosion hazard capable of detonating an entire load simultaneously. These primed booster explosives are highly sensitive to heat, shock, and friction, making any incident involving them immediately life-threatening.
Hazard overview: UN 0225 carries a Division 1.1B mass explosion hazard, meaning the entire shipment can detonate in a single simultaneous event, producing catastrophic blast overpressure and high-velocity fragmentation. The integrated detonator makes these charges exceptionally sensitive, and any exposure to heat, mechanical shock, or friction can trigger detonation without warning.
Response guidance: In any incident involving UN 0225, responders must immediately isolate the area to a minimum of 800 meters in all directions and deny all entry to unauthorized personnel. If fire is present or a large spill has occurred, an initial evacuation of 1,600 meters in all directions must be considered, and under no circumstances should firefighters attempt to suppress a fire involving these materials.
UN 0225 Quick Details
Common Hazards of UN 0225
- Mass explosion hazard — entire load may detonate simultaneously.
- Severe blast overpressure and fragmentation.
- Sensitive to heat, shock, and friction.
- Secondary fire and debris hazard.
Chemical Identity & Physical Properties
UN 0225 Boosters with Detonator are solid explosive devices, typically cylindrical or block-shaped with varying colors depending on their composition, and emit no odor unless the casing is damaged.

PPE Requirements
Responders should approach UN 0225 only if absolutely necessary, wearing full protective equipment including SCBA when fire involvement is present, and must maintain the maximum achievable safe distance at all times.
Isolation & Evacuation
First Actions for a UN 0225 Incident
- CALL 911. Then call emergency response telephone number on shipping paper.
- Establish large isolation zone — minimum 500 meters in all directions.
- Stage upwind, uphill; limit personnel to essential responders only.
- Request Hazmat + law enforcement + additional resources immediately.
- Do not fight fire — evacuate and isolate; let burn if no life safety risk.
- Protect exposures only if safe and directed by command.
- Consult current ERG Guide 112 and follow SOP/SOG.
