A firefighter personal flotation device (PFD) is a specialized piece of equipment designed to provide buoyancy and support for firefighters operating in or near water. Not to be confused with standard life jackets, PFDs for firefighters are typically designed to allow for ease of movement while wearing turnout gear and SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus).
