What Makes This Ladder Different

At 64 metres, this turntable ladder (TTL) is currently the tallest in UK fire service operation — roughly the height of a 20-storey building. That reach matters for a narrow but real set of incidents: fires and rescues on upper floors where a standard aerial can't get high enough and a helicopter isn't practical or safe to deploy.

Getting It Running Safely

None of this works without proper outrigger placement and ground stabilization before the ladder extends — get that wrong and the whole platform's safety margin disappears. Operators need dedicated training in positioning, load limits, and reading ground conditions before committing to full extension. Ground crew coordination is constant throughout the operation, and routine testing and maintenance are what keep the ladder reliable when it actually gets called out.
